Wall and floor tiling
When you really think about it, tiles are what make the home what it is, they define the character. When you first walk through the door of an empty apartment or villa or whatever, thinking about buying it, or not, the first thing that you look at, (because with the exception of the painted walls, there is nothing more to look at), is the floor. If the floor looks good and you like the colour, or the texture or size and shape of the tiles on the floor, you will normally react positively, "ooh this is nice". Even though you did not walk into the previous offering and say "ooh these tiles are hideous" you did think it, they had tiles not marble, or it was very dull and chipped, or maybe it just would
not suit that beautiful sofa that you were looking at earlier.
You will either generously award points or strike a potential sale straight off your list when you enter the kitchen or first bathroom, depending upon the layout of the property, this is human nature. We pay little or no attention afterwards, at least for a while, because we chose well and therefore the tiles are what we are happy to accept, but as time passes so does fashion, and suddenly you realise that your tiles look very dull and chipped, and that it does not suit the new sofa that you are thinking of buying, again.
All tiles are not made equal, they are most definitely different, by which we do not mean they are made better , or worse, we can argue that point, but that there are many things wh
ich alter their suitability for certain places or conditions, and the cost of putting them where you want them. You would be ill advised for example to use wall tiles on the floor, or nice high quality marble to line your pool. Then there are sizes, shapes, borders, colours, grouts, mosaics, with or without borders, and so on, many things alter the amount of work involved in tiling an area, which sometimes leads to second thoughts, but if you have already bought the tiles, you may well be stuck with them, tile supply companies are not known for generously taking back twenty or more boxes of tiles because you have found out that they are unsuitable. It really is more beneficial to call us and ask for advice about these things first, for one thing it saves buying enough tiles to tile the whole house, when you only want a small bathroom tiling. Similarly it saves buying the last and only three boxes because they are on offer, when you need a whole house tiling.
Terrace tiles are especially interesting, the moment you start to loose the grout from between the joints you start the clock on when the tiles are going to start coming up, causing long bouncy ridges across the terrace, if unchecked the problem
Installing a new kitchen in a property and leaving broken old tiles on the wall is a bit like buying your partner a fabulous diamond ring, and then wrapping it in old paper from your fish and chips, somehow it looses impact. It really is no laughing matter; people do spoil their houses like that, which is a shame when it costs so little to have a nice row of new tiles along the back, which can be co-ordinated to the colour of the new units and the rest of the kitchen.
